Abraham Laboriel's right hand technique is interesting.

A trained classical guitarist, Laboriel uses a lot of classical guitar techniques like free strokes, rasgueados, and patterns including the ring finger. I am fascinated by his percussive concept, where he uses different techniques to emulate specific drums. For example, playing with the back (top) of the nails for a snare, or using rasgueados for cymbals.

He gets a great sound, and has been on literally thousands of recordings. He has worked with folks like Herbie, Chick, Gary Burton et al.

You can learn more about his techniques on the DVD "Right Hand Bass Techniques" (Hal Leonard). (In general, I did not like the DVD, but the Laboriel interview was worth the price of admission.)

Is anyone else a fan?
