Years ago I took lesson from a local guitarist. He had this cool little machine called Dr. Rythem. He could program drum loops with chord changes and then put them on tape for me to jam with. The sound was pretty cool.

So now I am trying to achieve the same thing with my home PC. I am researching the subject but I am still too ignorant to spend my money on software. Well not exactly. I did buy a copy of Acid 6 from guitar center only to discover it isn't supported by Vista so I will be returning it today.
There are so many products out there to choose from.

So what are you running on your machines and how do you like it ?

Such a complicated subject........

Six months late but Band in a Box is a Dr Rhythm type thing and very useful. It's not a DAW but you can record in it.

Someone on the PlayJazzGuitar forum was doing this (Band in a Box) with pretty decent results - especially just for practicing tunes. It was quite acceptable (and better than I expected, from the examples he posted).
