I was transcribing Mark's excellent Good Vibes solo of Tenor Madness this morning (for about the fourth time Wink ) and came up with a new game. I think it's good for applying language:

1) transcribe 12 bars
2) play the 12 bars through from memory
3) play the 12 bars in different keys and positions -- until you know them
4) play through the 12 bars, but this time, replace phrases. For example, make up your own first 4 bars, or bars 5-8, or bars 9 through 12. Then just use the long two five from the blues solo; or the turnaround.

Let me know what you think. I tried this, and I found that I was able to integrate just about everything I transcribed.
