One of the best guitar purchases I made recently is D'Angelico Excel.
DA was making them in Korea for a while then they closed the operation
and were selling all the models for mere $800 (usually that meant about
half of the regular price). Most of the models are already gone - I bought
one of the last floating pickup-17" EXL-1's but the are still a few in
routed pickup category or double pickup. Those guitars are amazing
value. Worst case (and very unlikely) scenario is that you can return it
for refund.
Check their website:

PS. a lot of folks on rec.music.makers.guitar.jazz NG bought those
and were quite extatic about them. Here is a link to sound sample
done by one of them:

Those are some great deals. Just checked out the clearance page.

Another amazing value are Eastmans. I recently picked up a 335 copy, whch I think blows away the Gibson. The Eastman is all solid woods (compared to plywood on a Gibson). Instead of a full wood block (as is the case with Gibsons), it has an isolated block of wood under the bridge and tail piece, which gives it great sustain, but retains a woody jazz tone. You get all of this, plus great fit and finish for only $1900.

I've also played the big Eastman jazz boxes. They are just as nice.

Oh man, I ALWAYS wanted double humbucker hollowbody - guitar that
is perfect for all thing T-Bone. But as much as it is tempting - I mostly
play my Forshage these days:

(Roger's guitar has very similar body - but different pickups).
Once you get use to comhort that ergonomic design offers it is very hard
to go back - especially to full hollowbody with 25.5" scale - I still love
the tone of my Excel - esp. after swapping pickup for true Armstrong -
but there is no comparisong as far as comfort.[/img]
