Here's another "mini" lesson, this time with an uptempo bebop blues slant and based on a popular solo I recorded awhile ago. For those of you familiar with essential jazz language, this is a II-V (two-five) cliché that takes place over bars 9 & 10 in the 12-bar progression. I played it during a solo over George Benson's classic "Clockwise" in the key of G. A complete solo transcription will be made available in an upcoming series.

To hear the mp3 lesson audio with vocal narrative, click here. To hear the complete solo, click here. Enjoy!

tremendous swing. You always remind me hank garland when you play that style.

Could you tell me what gear do you used when recording that?

Thanks

Thanks, guys! Sorry I didn't get back over here sooner to reply. Glad you enjoyed the lesson and track. Hank's definitely been an influence on me. I initially got exposed to his work through retracing Benson's roots, because the "Jazz Winds" recording had such a strong impact on George, who is one of my main guitar mentors.

Manuel, I used Garage Band on a G5 Mac for that recording. Guitar (Gibson S400 archtop) going directly in with some reverb. That's about it. I have a number of different recording rigs and more sophisticated software at my disposal, but I enjoy the utter simplicity of GB and have been using it for almost everything outside of acoustic recordings over the past year or so. Just plug 'n play. Wink All for now...
