Len,
Thanks, man. Glad you enjoyed it. As far as the blues goes, unlike so many guitarists associated with jazz, blues has always been #1 for me. It was the blues stylings of Kenny Burrell, George Benson, Oscar Peterson and others that drew me to the kind of jazz I prefer in the first place. And like you, I've always had an affinity for R&B and its players, too. Blend the two with a little Bird and that's where I live.
You might get a kick out of this, but I've been working on a new lesson subseries dealing with the somewhat daunting "Giant Steps" by Coltrane. Beyond the classic "Sheets of Sound" and other concepts, I've been deliberately working in blues elements ranging from Benson to Chuck Berry. And guess what? The blues always works, and listeners emotionally relate to it, regardless of context.
