Carole Kaye sometimes tapes felt over the strings at the bridge to get a muted sound. In the old days, when the bridge p/u had an ashtray cover, players could stuff foam in there. |

what was the purpose of that bridge cover i had one on my 74 jazz but i took it off. i thought it was just in the way, especially when it came time to play near the bridge. _________________ corky

Not sure what the original purpose was, but some old-time players would stuff foam or felt in it to get a muted sound. |
