Anybody using it? I found a patch editor recently that made deep
editing much easier and solved some tracking problems. You still
have to try to play somewhat on a clean side but it behaves more
like a musical instrument now - fewer accidental notes and more
uniform dynamic. I know that doing tenor sax on guitar synth may
sound sacrilegous for many of you but somehow it makes easier
to mimick sax phrases (maybe my brain is not wired to translate
notes between diff instruments). You try to make it sound like sax
- start insering pauses to "take a breathe" etc. I have it set up to
have guitar output go to Amplitube and mixed with sax tone from
synth. And I can go from pure sax to pure guitar by varying the mix.

I just noticed this was a post from last year, but i have been using the gr33, certainly not an expert with editing, pretty much use the sounds as they are, i am using it with a echoplex for looping.

I overlooked this post too!
I've had a GR-33 for some time now. It's a good little box but I have to say, I enjoy the GI-20 considerably more. The only way I've been happy with the GR-33 is using it basically AS IS. After trying to use it to trigger / control external midi gear it really didn't work well. Could never get the tracking to work very well externally. But, it's still fun to just play with.
The GI-20 is the way to go IMO if you want to trigger soft-synths and the like. The setup I use my GI-20 on is entirely software driven and is outstanding in comparison.
For what it's worth...way after the fact. _________________

My synth guitar (Ibanez AS120 with RMC pickups) is in the shop now -
I want to completely decouple magnetic pickup signal - right now it
seems to be routed via RMC preamp which gives it a bit of a harsh
edge.
As for tracking issues - there is GI-20 and also Axon AX 100. Once I get
that guitar back I may get one of those. |
