So who couldn't use a new 335! Guitar Center is having this online contest called King of The Blues. Winner gets a new 335 and a trip to LA. You pick one of their 20 backing tracks to use and just improv on it. I'm not much on music competitions but I figured, what the heck. I submitted a tune and the response has been great so far.
You can hear it here. Click on The Butler did it. It starts as sort of a tribute to Billy Butler then gets into some other stuff.
Any of you guys or gals into home recording should jump in on this. Who can't use another guitar around the house? |

That's pretty darn good Brad!
I suggested to Mark a while a go he should do it. I just don't have the blues chops for it. _________________

Thanks for the listen guys!
I had #1 for a little while and still hanging in there in the top 10. Still a couple weeks to go. I'm sure some child prodigy will show up at anytime and school everybody.
I'm afraid Mark is a bit to established for this one. It's for hacks like me and non pro types. I think you have make less than 10G a year in the music biz to compete. I did steal some of Mark's lines anyway so he's kind of there already
Larry, thanks man but it's a bit to early for that
If anyone here submits a tune please let me know so I can check it out. |

Brad,
Great track, blues man! Too bad that more of the "pros" I hear playing around and making more than 10Gs a year aren't "hacks" like you.
As far as the theft issue is concerned? None of us owns the language. It's all about what you DO with it that counts, and I dig what you're doing. All for now...

It's finally over and I placed in the top 10 @ #5. Now it goes to 4 judges who will pick the winner from the top 10. Not sure who all the judges are but I believe Jack Sonni (Dire Straits) and Pete Anderson (Dwight Yoakam) are 2 of them. There was also mention that the winner will be played on Guitar Center radio that plays in all the stores.
A big thanks to everyone that listened and the very nice words! |

Wow Brad, that's awesome! Especially with how many submissions and general garbage to sift through, this is no small feat!
Big Congrats man! No small task!
Best of on the final round! _________________

Way to go!
What are the rules of the online contest? Is it something that
happens every year? Is it independent from the thing that goes
at GC stores? |

Brad,
GGOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!! Way to go, man! I really can't say that I'm surprised, though. What's not to love about the way you play?!? Now don't let all this fame go to your head.

Way to go man.....nothing like a trip and a free guitar...but be careful in Hollwood you mite hook up with Paris Hilton or something.I know we've never met ,but Hollwood does have a dark side, it's just the father in me so take care when there.I've been there more than once and even at my age I watch my back when there. _________________ What don't kill you makes you stronger |
