About the Recordings...

My students, both locally and correspondence, have been after me for a long time to put some brief audio clips online for other fans to experience what they routinely hear, in face-to-face instruction or long distance. For the most part, I've kept the samples on the short side for easier downloads. You'll find the latest additions directly below. Enjoy!

Note: talk is cheap in the music business. When you consider studying with someone or buying learning products, it's very important to do so with the confidence that the instructor/author can play as well as communicate his or her knowledge to the student. This is often not the case. That being said, links are provided for those interested in lessons or products.

Holiday Releases...

Three special recordings to thank our fans and help celebrate the season. Just click on any track title below or the spinning CD to launch the audio clip. Scroll for more tracks.

 Merry Christmas Baby (1.7M)

The slow blues holiday classic. Original arrangement and solo, but inspired by guitarist Kenny Burrell and others. Plenty of double-stops, slides, etc. Concepts taught via the Rhythm & Blues wing of the Lessons by Mail program, plus our Jazzed Blues video CDs.

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (2.5M)

Swing version featuring Wes-style octaves for the melody, then a blend of blues and jazz language in the single-line solo. For those interested in this style of playing, check out the Swing Blues: Doorway to Jazz wing of the Lessons by Mail correspondence program.

 White Christmas (1M)

A change of pace with this ballad standard by Irving Berlin, arranged and performed on a nylon-string guitar, unplugged and fingerstyle. Cool intro/ending. To access the music & tab (members only), click here. Like chord-melody? See our Chord Melody Cafe course.

Recent Recordings...

Here are three more releases for you to check out. Scroll for more tracks.

 Mark My Blues (1.6M)

This is a slow, 12-bar blues in Bb with jazz changes. The response among my colleagues and students was so great that I decided to upload it for site fans. Concepts taught via the Rhythm & Blues wing of the Lessons by Mail program, plus our Jazzed Blues video CDs.

 My Masquerade (984k)

A recent guitar solo on the classic vamp from 'This Masquerade' (Leon Russell). Plenty of blues and jazz ideas courtesy of Benson and my other influences. Check out the Rhythm & Blues wing of the Lessons by Mail program or our Jazzed Blues video CD lesson course.

 Counter Clockwise (584k)

Buckle up for this take on the epic 'Clockwise' by George Benson, a smokin' jazz blues in the key of G. Several choruses of spirited blowing. Licks and soloing concepts taught via the popular Swing Blues wing of the Lessons by Mail correspondence program.

Like Solo Guitar? Chord-Melody?

Solo acoustic and electric guitar tracks for you to enjoy. Scroll for more blues, jazz, etc.

 Corcovado (716k)

Short, unplugged solo guitar demo of Antonio Carlos Jobim's classic bossa nova. This tune is available as a lesson within the Guitar Solo: Instrumental Arrangements wing of the Lessons by Mail program.

 Summertime (820k)

A jazz guitar excerpt from our Tenderly duo release. We performed the George Gershwin standard as a sultry, blues-oriented affair, but I decided to spice up my chord-melody section by combining the melody with chords and a walking bass line, ala Joe Pass.

That's What Friends Are For (664k)

Another short, acoustic solo guitar demo of Burt Bacharach's pop classic. Also available as a correspondence lesson within the Guitar Solo: Instrumental Arrangements wing of the Lessons by Mail program.

Someday My Prince Will Come (776k)

Another solo jazz guitar (archtop) highlight from our popular recording. I backed Dennis up during the head and his solo in the key of C, then modulated temporarily to the key of F for this chord-melody rendition of the waltz classic. Click here to order the CD.

 Misty (640k)

Brief, unplugged solo guitar demo of Errol Garner's ballad standard. Also available as a correspondence lesson within the Guitar Solo: Instrumental Arrangements wing of the Lessons by Mail program.

The Beat Goes On...

Here's another trio of tracks, spanning blues, latin-rock, and jazz:

 Red House (1MB)

This is a very brief, 12-bar solo chorus on a traditional I-IV-V slow blues, recorded on an archtop guitar with a little reverb. My favorite moves: rakes, slides, chord punches, double-stops, vibrato, etc. All taught in the R & B Experience wing of Lessons by Mail.

 Evil Ways (868k)

Just having some fun blowing it out, as so many site fans and members enjoy doing, at the popular Jam Central Station page. Santana's simple vamp classic and many of my favorite licks, thanks to George Benson and others, as taught in the R&B wing of Lessons by Mail.

 Don't Bust Your Chops (1.6M)

One of at least a hundred blues originals by yours truly, this one very bebopish and fast at 250 bpm. Guitar, bass, and keys on the melody. Nine choruses of solos, six single line and three in octaves. Licks/concepts taught via the Swing Blues wing of Lessons by Mail.

More from "Tenderly" - Our 5-Star Jazz Duo CD...

Two more tracks from this popular release, which sold 40,000 copies its first year:

 Tenderly (1.2MB)

The 60-second audio demo from our national TV commercial, featuring Dennis Marcellino on tenor saxophone and myself on guitar. Very brief clips in this medley of great, classic standards, but enough to give you a feel for my accompaniment skill. Click here to order.

Everything Happens for A Reason (4.5MB)

An original composition from our CD release. This is a jazzy waltz piece that showcases my writing and playing in this genre. Octave head 'ala Wes' with sax, single-line/octave solos, comping, etc. Concepts taught through the Swing Blues wing of Lessons by Mail.
