Lesson Notes...

This mini lesson illustrates the use of upper-string chord voicings associated with jazz, but used in a traditional three-chord slow blues context as part of a guitar solo. The example that you're hearing and seeing begins with a chromatic approach to the V chord (G7 in C) at bar nine, followed by some simple blues licks harmonized with both the G7 and F7 (IV) chords before resolution back to the C (I) chord. Hint: Try using these ideas against the Red House track at our Jam Central Station page, or transpose it for use in any other slow blues.

This lesson is reflective of concepts taught in the Swing Blues and Rhythm & Blues wings of our LBM program.
